HTC is rumored to be working on a tablet and it even had the leaked benchmarks of a new model called Vertex leaked recently. Now insiders say that the Taiwanese giant has partnered with Pegatron in order to produce a new tablet PC. Industry watchers and analysts believed that HTC would have already given up on the tablet business already, because of the poor sales performance of the 7 inch Flyer.
Not to mention the fact that the Jestream tablet was
a ghost and I haven’t heard anything about it since it was launched. HTC must have also felt strange not to be included in the first wave of companies that make Windows 8 tablets, so they must do something to show that they’re still in the game. HTC previously rejected an offer from Google to co develop the Nexus 7 tablet, because it doesn’t like the idea of a budget slate in the $199 price range. This made ASUS the favourite partner for this initiative and they’re gaining a lot of market capital.
With ASUS and Samsung at the top of Android slate sales I can’t help but wonder if there’s any room for HTC to jump in. If the recent rumors are true, HTC is still evaluating a 7 or 10 inch model with Pegatron and it will probably be a quad core slate in the end. They would have to price it right, probably bundle their cool stylus and throw something extra in the mix. Beats, OnLive, HTC Watch, gift cards? What will it be? Is the HTC Quattro model still on?
