I guess I wouldn’t be wrong if I said that Samsung was one of the most prolific companies at IFA 2012. They not only unveiled the first Windows Phone 8 handset, the Ativ S, but also some Windows 8 tablets, the 5.5 inch phablet Galaxy Note II and the crazy Galaxy Camera. Apparently they also had a futuristic concept in the mix: a dual display notebook concept, shown below.
This is a Windows 8 affair, that reveals a second display once you close the notebook’s lid. This makes the laptop sort of a big slate, once the lid is shut. Toshiba and Sony presented similar designs and from what I know Lenovo is also
exploring the format, with a twist, through the Yoga model. Samsung obviously offers an extra here: the S Pen digital stylus, that has become omnipresent on their new gadgets. Samsung didn’t mention if this unusual model will ever get a commercial release, although I guess that there’s still some work to do on battery life, for example.
From what I can see in the pics, the device is pretty thin, so it’s more of an ultrabook than a regular full fledged and bulky laptop. I expect something like Intel Core i5/i7 inside, a huge amount of RAM and Windows 8 included in the mix. Or maybe they’ll go with an ARM CPU and Windows RT, but that’s rather kept for lighter hardware.
